Just Believe!

!9# Just Believe!

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Matthew 7:7-11

For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. 2 Corinthians 1:20

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Numbers 23:19

JUST BELIEVE IT!

This week we are getting ready to celebrate "The Big Ten" and we stand amazed at all God has done in and through The ROC in ten short years. We give Him the glory for all the great things that have been accomplished. We know that God has responded to our prayers, as David wrote in Psalm 61:1, "Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer." We know that without prayer, believing, and rolling up our sleeves and joining God in His work, none of this would have happened. It makes us realize the need to pray more, believe more, and never quit!

I think there are two basic reasons why Christians don't pray: 1) They don't believe God wants to answer their prayers and, 2) They don't believe God will answer their prayers. If Christians truly believed that God will answer prayer and that He wants to answer, more Christians would be praying. The purpose of this devotional is to try to convince you through God's Word that He is waiting to answer the prayers of His children.

It is amazing how little Christians pray. The least attended meeting at any church will be the prayer meeting. It is simply because Christians have not gotten hold of the truth that God will answer prayer and is in fact, waiting for us to pray. It is a matter of us believing that truth. We go through the drive-through at McDonald's and place our order, and believe it will be filled when we get to the window. It seems like we have more faith in the McDonald's drive-through than we do in God. That sounds crazy, but it is true.

We have made prayer much more complicated than God ever intended it to be. Prayer is really simple. It simply means "asking." God in Heaven is a loving God. He is good and He loves His children. God hears our prayers and He answers them. All He asks is that we abide in Him. He asks that we walk in His footsteps and do the best we can to live our lives according to His Word. He really doesn't ask for much, but we make it way too hard. Why do you think too many Christians do not take seriously the matter of prayer? Don't you think it is just because we do not believe it could really be so easy to communicate with God and have Him respond?

There is an enemy who wants to keep us from believing that the Creator of Heaven and Earth wants us to talk to Him on a daily basis. We can't believe that a perfect God would listen to the prayers of an imperfect man or woman. We can't believe that the God who created it all actually cares about what we want and need. Why is it easier to believe we are born again and going to Heaven, but we can't believe He will supply all our needs? Why are we so skeptical about God our Father in Heaven who tells us in His Word that He will supply all our needs? It is simply that we just have to believe it!

Just believe God means it when He says in Jeremiah 33:3, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."

Just believe it when God says in Psalm 91:15, "He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him"

Just believe it when God says in Psalm 72:12, "For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper."

Just believe it when God says in John 15:7, "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."

Just believe it when the Bible says in Psalm 37:4, "Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."

I want you to see how simple this can be. Just believe it. If you don't have the faith to believe, start by asking God for faith and believe these scriptures that promise if you ask, He will answer.

God's Word is true. You can bet on it and you can take it to the bank. If you are battling drugs or trying hard to quit smoking, God wants to help you do it - just believe it. You know you have tried over and over again to stop on your own, and you know deep down inside that the only way you are going to be able to be set free is with God's help. He is waiting for you to ask - just believe it!

God Word is true. You are reading this right now and thinking about how hard it is to pay the bills right now. Perhaps you have lost your job and are seeking employment. The God who said He "will supply all your needs" is the "same yesterday, today, and forever." Just believe it!

If we will just believe there is a God who is all-powerful, who knows what we want and what we need, who hears our cries and our prayers, then we would ask and believe that He will answer.

There is nothing too hard for God and nothing impossible for Him. Just believe it!

I heard a story that is a great illustration for this devotional. There was a woman who had come to the United States from South America. She was very poor and uneducated, but she was a Christian and going to a church. The pastor of the church spoke her language, so he and a couple of ladies visited her to see if they could help her with her needs. They asked if she had any family, and she told them she only had one son and he still lived in South America. They asked if he ever wrote to her, and she told them yes. She said he wrote short notes, but always included a green card, which she didn't understand. The pastor asked her what she did with them, and she said she had used them to wallpaper a small bedroom. He asked to see the room, and when she showed him, he turned to her and said, "Madam, that's not for wallpaper. They are money orders. You are rich and you don't even realize it." Hello. There are many Christians who are rich and don't even realize it. They don't realize that their Father is God and that they have direct access to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ, and they don't even realize how rich they are.

Our Heavenly Father owns it all. The cattle on a thousand hills. He is wealthy with vast resources - not just financial, but healing, deliverance, restoration, and so much more. He is our Father and we are His Son or His Daughter, which means we are His heir. That makes us rich, Church, and too many of us do not even realize it. We are rich, but we don't believe it. He said, "Ask and it shall be given unto you." But you have to believe that prayer works, because it is the only way we can ASK. Prayer is calling on the Lord. It is prayer that parted the Red Sea, shut the mouths of lions, kill Goliath, multiplied the fishes and the loaves, heal the blind man and the woman with the issue of blood, raised Lazarus from the dead and so much more. It is prayer that is still setting people free, healing them, and supplying needs. If it works for others, it will work for you. You just have to believe it!

No matter what your need is today, prayer works, just believe it! If you need healing, financial help, deliverance, the power to forgive someone, it takes prayer and prayer works - just believe it! If you are battling depression, have a rebellious, wayward son or daughter, need healing in your body, God is waiting to hear you cry out in prayer - just believe God is waiting and will answer prayer. Just believe it!

It can't get any easier than asking! Just believe it! God doesn't want it to be hard. Remember He is a good God and only doeth wondrous things. Just believe it. How simple is it? God said we only need faith the size of a mustard seed and we can move a mountain. A mustard seed is actually very small, so it is obvious that God was trying to prove a point with us that it only takes a little bit of faith to move a great, big mountain.

Give prayer a try this week. Try praying more often. Start with short prayers. Just talk to God. Tell Him about your day. Let Him in on your decisions. Ask His advice about situations that have you depressed and confused. Call on Him and believe He is just waiting to answer. You will find yourself thanking Him for answers, and the more you discover the joy of prayer, the closer you will find yourself getting to

God.

Just believe it!

Referrals - Writing a Soft Sales Letter That Gets You More Referrals

!9# Referrals - Writing a Soft Sales Letter That Gets You More Referrals

What's the best way to get more referral business? It's... it's by writing a thank-you letter.

Yes, I know - it's weird, but it's the best technique you can use for getting more referrals. Yes, better than a sales letter!

Here's how it works: First, you get a referral. I know - I'm as surprised as you are, but sometimes it happens: someone liked you... and somewhere down the line and they passed some good words out about you to a new customer or prospect.

Here's what you can do to encourage them to refer you again and again: send them a "Thank You for your referral!" letter. Here's what happens: First, your "Thank you!" letter elevates you from the silent majority - who never bothered to express their appreciation for being referred. Well, that got you noticed, and placed well above 99.9% of other people who have received a referral from someone and never even said thanks, let alone write a letter. Now here's how to get even more business.

Face it: a phone call just doesn't have the impact of a thank you letter. Whatever you said on the phone - that fades into the horizon with the sunset. But not a letter. A letter has time to sit on the recipient's desk as a lasting memento of your appreciation. A phone call just doesn't compare to the visual goodwill generated by an appreciative letter.

The Most Valuable Letter

So, the most valuable letter you can write is to thank someone for their referral. "Thank you for your kind referral. I appreciate the privilege to be of service to your colleague. I don't take referrals lightly, and assure you I will provide good value..." Continuing, "Thank you so much for your referral and your trust."

A referral is the utmost demonstration of trust a client or friend can show. It's the leap of faith that you'll perform exceptionally well for someone else, even when completely out of view. The person who recommends you puts their own name and reputation on the line for you. Does it deserve a thank you letter? You bet! But wait, there's more.

Why is your "Thank you" letter so effective? First, it makes the person feel comfortable with their recommendation of you, because now they know you're going to do the very best job you possibly can for your new client. You're going to lean over backward to look good, and to make them look good for giving you their referral. You can't make them feel like this with an ad, brochure or a phone call, but it's easy to do with a well placed and well timed letter.

With a personal letter it's easy to convince someone who has referred you that you really do appreciate the trust they've placed in your products or services. You can make them feel, well, like they should refer more people to you, all the time. And therein lies the beauty, the value, and the monetary worth in the most valuable letter you can write: the "Thank you for your referral!" letter. The receiver will remember it, and when the opportunity comes up again, they'll continue to refer more people to you.

You've heard of word-of-mouth advertising as the best (and the cheapest) form of advertising? Well, this is better. It's how you make it more referrals happen, again and again.

So now this "Thank you for your referral" letter has become the least costly AND the most effective piece of advertising you can write, bar none. Least costly? AND most effective? Hummm...

Did you notice how casually the "Thanks for your kind referral" letter has now become the most effective piece of advertising you can write? It's no longer in the "I'll just dash off this thank-you letter" category. It becomes an art form, your personal ad in the exact form and style of a letter.

Sending a Hard-Working Gift

What does my office do for people who refer direct marketing consulting or copywriting clients to us? We send them a Cross Pen, and of course a wonderful letter that says thank you so much for your kind referral. And we have THEIR name engraved on the pen (the only person who wants a pen with my name on it is me!) Don't worry, they'll remember where they got it!

By the time we ship their new pen to them, and of course our own personal letter of thanks, it costs us about . Is it worth it? You tell me: the prospect who received the referral of us trusts us because he received the personal recommendation from a friend. If we do any work for the new client, our copywriting and market consulting fees range from... well, we get our back pretty quick. Many clients stay with us for years.

We don't convert all the prospects referred to us into actual rent-paying customers. Some don't need our high-powered direct marketing sales letters or high response direct marketing sales material. Some aren't ready to launch products just yet; and some are just tire-kickers or fishing. No matter, we still send an engraved pen to the referral source with a nice letter of thanks.

Funny, the more letters we send, the more referrals we seem to get from the referral source. Which we really do appreciate. If you'd like to get more business, write an exceptional "Thank you for your referral!" letter, and keep it at-the-ready in your computer.

When you get a referral, send the letter. If you feel it's worth it, send an engraved Cross Pen with your letter of thanks. If not, that's OK, a letter by itself will thank people nicely also. You can't buy that kind of advertising - that goodwill or trust, or those kind referrals - at any price. Or can you?

Knife Care Tips for your Big knife blade folding or it does not cost anything, but you can save a lot

!9# Knife Care Tips for your Big knife blade folding or it does not cost anything, but you can save a lot

Basic Knife Care

Of all the types of blades on the market today there are only two types of blades, the principal. The conditions of work and the strong and weak and broken. One species, the other not only that you want.

To keep the blades sharp and working conditions of the class, there are some basic rules you can follow. These rules are not rocket science, in fact most are just common sense, but it is abolished, as is oftenignored.

There are not many of us, fillet a fish with an ax or a screwdriver to the skin of a deer or even a can opener to cut a rope, but we look with horror and surprise in our dull, chipped and broken blade of the knife after have cut down trees, remove the screws, or open a can. Those of you who read this with a smile on your face to know exactly what I'm talking about.

The number one rule is: as a transmitter modem is a precision instrument should only the tasks that it has been usedspecific. If this rule is broken the knife is broken, is the most common reason for failure knife.

Now we have the basic care and maintenance.

Just like the old adage "A Stitch in Time saves nine", which also applies when it came to sharpen the knives.

Rule number two is: to sharpen the knives are easily and often performed, depending on the amount of work, the knife did. And 'much better for you and your sharp knife so that all the time, has resisted such as stoning, grinding and polishing for hours after discovering the knife well in something that looks like a butter knife and cut the string do not even have.

Rule number three is that all carbon steel and stainless steel blades must be cleaned and dried after use. Also, depending on the level of use should be oiled with a 3 in 1 oil or some other type of light oil other. If your knife or even exposed to salt water pool, youmust be cleaned and oiled as soon as possible. Salt and chlorine can corrode the blade very quickly.

Yes, and stainless steel knives are cleaned and oiled. This is because stainless steel knife was used for the additives in it to make it stronger and more durable. This makes the steel resistant to corrosion as an anti-corrosion.

These are the three basic rules of knife care, if followed, you and your knife will be together for a longTime.

I hope you found this article informative and helpful and I hope that my sense of humor does not offend anyone.

Encourage creativity in children

!9# Encourage creativity in children

All children born to have the potential to be creative. However, their potential may be stifled, if you do not bother to stimulate and promote creativity. Our creativity shows who we are as a unique individual. You know the saying - We can and we will "There is no such thing as".! Creativity is an important aspect of a personality. It allows us to see things in a different and unusual. This is an important ability to solve problems in anyoneLife - the ability to think about different alternatives to solve a problem. Or to see, other problems can not be noticed and have come up with effective solutions to these problems.

What is creativity?

Activity

What about creativity? Write a paragraph or short list, how would you define creativity.

What is creativity?

Creativity, originality, expressiveness, creativity, creating, producing, to portray, to give character to evolve fromtheir thoughts, to create the design, together with parents to throw to.

There are many different aspects of creativity. It 's basically the ability to produce new ideas and useful objects for everyday use, and solutions to everyday problems and challenges. This is a translation of gifts and vision to produce something new and useful.

There is no agreed definition of creativity. The creativity is explored, especially in the field of psychology. In this,is usually said that it means to be creative, be reasonable and novel.

But what are the personality traits of highly creative?

The personality traits of highly creative

Creative people can be seen in everyday life and familiar things in a new light. You will be able to things beyond the ordinary to see non-obvious.

A very creative person is -

1 Produce a wide range of ideas or solutions to problems and questions. They are often unusual or clever.

2 They show a lot of curiosity about things, ask questions all the time.

3 They are interested in different and related areas.

4 You can develop collections of things on their interests.

5 They may be willing to take risks.

May 6 View heightened emotional sensitivity, for example, are particularly sensitive to beauty.

7 They are often willing to express their opinion withoutInhibition.

8 They are tenacious and persistent in their ideas and projects.

9 It can often be seen as a maverick.

10 They may seem disorganized or chaotic.

11 I can not be interested in the details.

12 You're not scared, as "different" means.

16 The very creative people often show intellectual game, often daydream or imagine. You can come new ideas, so they are able to change or improve their own ideas or ideas of others.

Encourage creativity in children - What not to do

The children develop creativity, because what we show them, not for what we tell themto do or not do. It 'amazing just to discourage children to discourage creative, but why. It 'easy to experience for children to steal their experiences of culture and education, why not encourage their creativity. Hennessy and Amabile (1992, Goleman, Kaufman and Ray, 1992 - The Creative Spirit) has identified some common "killer creative" that are commonplace in our schools and homes.

Rating - always trying to do what childrento evaluate, comment on what they do, think about what they can take care of them and not understand the value of what they do. You can also make them lose the joy in the actual process of creating something.

Surveillance - you know, like you did when someone stands over you feel what you are doing? You probably have to start hating, or of making mistakes or feel nervous. This constant monitoring or watching the kids can have the same effect onChildren. You can make them feel as if they were under constant observation. It can resist the opportunity to take risks in their creativity and their creative abilities.

Awards - awards and the reasons for their creativity can create the need for the baby things for the sake of creativity - for the pleasure of creating something.

Competition - creativity needs to be no competition. We all have creative abilities in various ways. If weEncourage children to compete with each other to create the best image, etc., can reduce their creativity. There is always an image that is better than the other, there will always be a little 'junk modeling, which is better than the others. Everything should be done by a child for its value and the value of being praised, not models or images are compared with other children.

Restriction of freedom of choice - if we are children, to say engage in activities that can reduce their curiosityand to create passion. You should explore and experience the creativity and the type of production.

Over-Control - When we say that the children I like things the way we think they should keep things could affect the child's creativity and originality. The child may feel that what they're doing is not good enough, an error or is a waste of time to try something new.

Pressure on children - through pressure on children, you canactually give them a distaste for creativity. If we can expect incredible results every time a child creates something that put unnecessary pressure on them. This in turn may limit their performance or experience. Even if our expectations are too high, it may be because they are beyond the child's development.

How can we encourage children to be creative?

1 Encourage the children to keep trying - the child can be more creative in the world, but if they donot continue to try and see no problems until the end, we will not know how creative they are and they can be.

2 showing appreciation for their efforts - they praise!

3 Do not try to help too. Resist the temptation to take over or end the task for them.

4 Try not to monitor too. Are spontaneous. After the self-awareness is essential for the development of their creativity.

5 Enter a creative atmosphere. Leave a easy access to childcreative tools, such as clay, drawing books, pencils, paper. Give them toys to promote creativity. If you are worried that they begin to draw on the wall, so you understand there are only certain areas can make their game "messy", as the kitchen or conservatory. Tell them often enough and it will sink

6 Daydream - daydreaming is an important process. It allows the child to imagine things and different results. Some aspects of daydreamare important for the development of problem solving skills. But do not let the child fantasizing too much. If the child is daydreaming to feel too much, please fill in his daydreams, perhaps it can lead to fun activities. For example, say they dream of a part of the day, then fill a little 'more, then I am a little' more, and so on to add. It can then become a game.

7 Let the child is "different". Let the child know that there is no "right" answer to a problem thatshould be encouraged to be innovative and unique. If it does not work this time, hey, who knows, might work with another problem.

8 Encourage problem solving and planning in various areas of their lives. If you solve a problem (or is not to solve), to encourage them to, why and how they see it resolved, so you can use the capabilities in other areas.

9 If the child does not want help, do not put pressure, but if you ask them the support they want.

Children,As adults, they need rules to live their lives. Children must learn to control their behavior depending on the situation and rules of society. There are times and places where creativity can not be of importance as a color on the wall with permanent markers is obviously not suitable for most families. However, it should explore a balance between the periods in which children can be creative and experiment. Sometimes the decisions should be limited and given direct instructions, butother times, children should choose to explore and develop their creative skills will be given. It 'important that the child does not go through life just a little' of rules and conformity, not creativity and joy.

Encourage creativity in children - Drama and Theater Games

Theater and theater games

Games of drama and theater are great ways for kids to be creative. There are many ways you can do this.

Pretending to be all

Ask them to do so, assomething - a cat, a dog, a giant, a car, a lawnmower, the world, a sharpener - all I want to be. Make them think, to be about what it's like a lawnmower or the world or a cat or a dog. This can also be performed as part of the narrative. See article on the talk stories.

Sounds that make them what they would copy can imagine.
Cut a few pictures and ask each child to choose an image. You have to pretend that what is onImage for 2 minutes - a cat, a dog, a car - whatever the image.
Try to be spontaneous.

Adventure

Pretend something exciting happens.

Ask your children to close their eyes, for example the car can fly when their eyes are closed and they want so long. Not when they open their eyes and say it is flying, you can say - "Well, it's because you opened your eyes!" Then you get to imagine where you could fly.

You see a man running.Ask them why they think it is running. He is on the run from pirates? He is the fastest runner in the world? If you run all over the world? Where'd he go? The questions are endless.

Plays

If you really want to get into this, it might encourage children to pieces listed. Ask them a story, then you can live out there for you. Maybe wear fancy dress costumes, with silly voices, make some props. It should not be expensive or look fantastic. You should be ableuse their imagination to do these things.

If they do not want a story, perhaps you could act, a story they already know.
If you really enjoy these, could not play for friends or relatives - grandparents, aunts, etc.

Again, make props and costumes or the invention of history are ways to encourage them to think creatively.

The Shy Child

You will always find some guys who are reluctant to engage in this type of creative play is.Start with small steps. Maybe they do not want to seem "stupid" in front of their siblings or friends. If you do not care, and perhaps encourage them to see you play and the other children. When they see how fun it is, we hope you will want to join. If they do not, encourage them in other ways, such as distribution maps, so props, etc. There are children who do not want to play in the drama of its type to be involved, but they can creativelyother ways - drawing, painting, making props, etc.

In order not to stifle their creativity - only encourage it in a different direction!

Encourage creativity in children - Junk Modelling

Junk Modelling - get your household items (or rather, how clean anyway), cardboard boxes, toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, cereal boxes, paper, what you can find. Give the kids some 'glue, pencils, scissors (if they are large enough, or help them if not) and let them go. See what it does. AHotel? A dolls' house? A cave? A car? An animal? What is in their minds, they can create. If you sit looking at his absence, encouraging them to "see" things differently. Take the cereal box and say "do not look like a house" "or a car" "or a spaceship?"
It does not seem a rocket tube of toilet paper or a snake or a telescope?
Give them ideas and let them run with them.

Encourage creativity in children - Telling stories

Stories - Storiesare a great tool to promote creativity in children. You can do this in many ways.

Adult

They tell the story - a story without a book. If you are not a natural storyteller, a child could read the first book and then maybe the name and make it something different. Then you sit with your child and tell them the story without a book. Create the faces, voices not stupid, encouraging them to do actions. You might feel silly at first, but the more you do,The more you find your inner creativity! And then, it's fun, sometimes silly!

If you're brave, you might want to back your stories. Children love stories, in which. Take the characters have their names. If you have too many children in telling the story, this may not be a good idea because some children may feel excluded. But if you are one, two, three or four have children with you, I'm sure you can choose between different characters with their names to think about. Notbe concerned to give their names to the animals or aliens or car or whatever. Children usually think it's really fun. Remember the baby, but I do not think they find it fun to think of a pig or an alien then, something else.

Adults and children

Tell a story together. You can start easily. You can say all one sentence, so that you could start.

"One day, it was very dark and Bill were in bed when he heard a loud noise."

Then one ofThe children, says a phrase -

"Bill is afraid that he did not know what it was."

Then -

"He thought it might be his pet alien, Nigel." Etc etc

Let them be stupid - too stupid can lead to great imaginative stories. Then you can go on and on. Other adults may be included.

Remember to be careful, go too long and too boring.

If it seems to lead nowhere, you start another story.

If children do not seemare interested, get the story, rather than starting them. You might choose something that is more interesting then.

Children

Ask your child to tell a story. Ask them to make up. You can find that at the beginning of the story a little 'short or a little' repetitive, but the more you encourage the child, the better I am a storyteller.

If you are struggling with this, a picture book (without words, if possible) and ask them a story around thePictures. Or show the images from each book as a book on fish, animals or houses and ask you to use this to tell the story.

If you're feeling really creative, get the children to cut out a lot of pictures from magazines or draw lots of pictures. Put your photos on the cards. Then sit in a circle. All children (and adults) takes a paper and published the story from there.

Where to find the children, the narrative seems really hard to get back to basics. Show thema photo and ask them to imagine something. For example, they show a picture of an old man. Ask them how old they think that is what they think of his name, is friendly, he's grumpy, he is happy, etc. Do this often and encourage them to learn the things they see, thinking about it.

Do the same with animals. Ask them to name the animal, a person to do what they love to eat - once again encourage, doing stupid things, as well as "real" things, the animalto eat.

Books

Above all, books are still a very important part of the creative process. Read to your child, do it whenever you can. Not only will you leave until you go to bed. Reading can be a big part of the routine of going to sleep, but should not be the only time. Some parents find that their child will be really tired of going to bed and not a story, then, why not read during the day. Sit with your child whenever you can and read them a story.

If you are struggling to find timeany reason, ask another adult to read. If you have an older child, ask them to read the younger children - that will improve their reading skills as well.

Above all, remember the narrative should be fun!

The secular jackpot

The great Helen Boardman is not alone. In the U.S. there are now
more than 50,000 centenarians, the fastest growing age group.
Although the current average life expectancy for Americans76.9 years, of
In 2050 an estimated one million people to 100.
The substantial progress. In 1900 the average life expectancy extended by 47 years.
In 1800 was only 30 years.

"The secret of at least 100 today is a combination of genetics,
Life choices, mental sharpness, and luck simply! "Said Thomas T. Perls,
MD, author of Living to 100: lessons of life to your maximum potential
All ages (basicBooks).

This innovative book, with Margery Hutter Silver, Ed.D. written based on
the current New England Centenarian Study, which began in l994, which means that reveals
Age can be filled with clear health, mobility and good 0.1

"Of the 1,500 centenarians in our study," says Perls, "a large majority
were in great shape most of their lives. Instead of accumulating
Damage, they are actually there to shed. "

How? "Most people think the older you getto obtain the patient is obtained, very

"I had nothing," says Helen Boardman. Absence of disease. Not

His secret? "I think that is the spirit within you," he says dryly. When 90 or

Genetics BoosterRockets

What the hell is going on here? A woman married at 99 and
The protagonist of the games? Another shooting and dribbling a basketball? What
Well I'm out to drink?

"These Hundred Years," Dr. Perls says, "are what I call" genetic blessed
Rocket booster, "a built-in biological advantage to increase the
Norm. Everyone lives in extreme old age has this genetic advantage. Were
equipped with the "Rolls Royce" of genes, whichScientists call it "super-genes''
action as longevity insurance. These genes slow aging and reduce the
Risk of contracting diseases. Centenarians in our study who lived to 105, as a rule
died of pneumonia, or even a domestic accident - have never developed
chronic diseases of aging. Certainly, extreme old age runs in families. "

Both Helen and Margaret parents lived in their 80s, with narrow
Relatives of the two topping 102

Even genes with averageHowever, you can extend the longevity of most
than ever, says Dr. Perls: "Not long ago, 85 was considered old.
Now it is relatively easy to reach the age where you play your cards right. All
is reduced to four simple things: not smoking, maintaining a healthy diet,
Strength training and avoid excessive sun exposure and alcohol. These are
the biggies. "

An example is the country's oldest man, 113 years of Fred Hale, born
New SharonMaine on December 1, L890, when Benjamin Harrison was
President.

Until the age of 107, the retired railroad worker who lived alone in a three-storey
Farmhouse in Maine traipsing up and down the stairs, shoveling snow off the roof,
Cutting firewood, hunting, fishing, lawn mowing, gardening and beekeeping -
Produce their own honey and pollen, a passion throughout his life.

He was still driving his car, making him the oldest American ever
Holder of a licenseGuinness Book of Records.

A 113 Hale is located in a special class to himself as a "super-
Centenary ", defined as those living 110 or more. This is a super-
Centenary per million population, for a total of 260 in the U.S. today. "We
We do not know yet what distinguishes these people, "says Dr. Perls." They have
serious diseases and even your hearing and vision is usually not influenced
until the late 90s. "

Hale, both of whose parentslived to 91, hit in recent years
Pneumonia and had hip replacements and cataract surgery. "No disease, no
nothing, "he calls," except for some arthritis ", which is healed, he believes,
with a teaspoon of bee pollen taken with food.

Even if a few drops at the end forced him into the house Syracuse
Community Board Syracuse, NY, sat down with a walker until the age of
112, walking half a mile a day. His mental acuity and keen sense of humor
remains clouded.

How did you survive that long? "Oh, I do not know, okay, I guess!" he
Seriously.

As a reflection on them, he credits his longevity to good nutrition, plenty of rest (up
smoking at 6 am, in bed by 8 clock) and keep busy.

"The secret is to work," he says. "Do not sit around. Keep a good attitude. The
always loved to work. When I went home, I got five hours of sleep, and then
working in my garden. I can still bend over and take aBetter tissue
than most of them! "

Use it or lose it

Fred Hale was up 111, he studied Readers 'Word Power' Digest
Religious vocabulary exercise, control over new words a week. His work
Ethics and the point of intellectual curiosity of another important ingredient for longevity
Marathon: train your brain.

"There is definitely use it or lose", says Dr. Perls. "Freshness is the key to spiritual
always learn something new, thebuild new connections between
Brain cells.

"For example, crossword puzzles (verbal functions), bridge (memory
Functions) and complicated puzzles (visual-spatial functions) all hold
Sharp mind. Equally useful is the painting, poetry, sculpture or what
Learning a new language. We also found that music is a potent vaccine
against dementia and the onset of diseases of the brain. I knew a 102-year-olds,
has never been in his room at the nursing homeAt home because they are too busy to play
Mozart and Chopin recitals in the music room! Do all these things
allows you to attention and memory, and to preserve the ability to plan, organize,
and exercise self-care.

"I think the spirit has a lot to how you feel," says Helen
Boardman, until recently, a voracious reader, spent a lifetime writing the book
Reviews of biographies in libraries and turning plays. Two years ago,
yet completed itsMemoirs, entitled "105 and Counting" before their vision
began to fail.

"Stay home and television has never been my joy in everything," says Helen,
who does tune into C-Span for book reviews. She believes that the secret of
Longevity is: "Curiosity I like seeing the world and the people I love Everyone ..
something good in them. If you are curious things are, you will find them out. "

She marvels at the technological marvels distributed to the three centuries
theirLife has gone through, but she says, with equal pleasure, their days
in a horse and buggy, "I went to school every day in my buggy Maudie.
included was a retired race horse, and I liked it! When we left our first
Car, was on the field. We immediately accepted the car, of course -
but no horse is more fun? "

Fun is one of Helen in the world. He also tried to rafting on the 90: "The
Ticket seller, said that the only requirement is that you had to beat least eight
Years. I said to myself: "If an 8 year old can do about it, I" * * * * *!
"Good training" and personality centenary

Although many may wonder if the diet has a lot to do with the remarkable
Health of centenarians ", it is impossible to know, because eating habits have
Then run the years changed dramatically, "says Dr. Perls. Most processed foods
There are in the formative years of the Hundred Years', was carried out by conservation
Pickling, smoking, and salts, and fresh fruit was less available. "Some were eating
He ate very little red meat every day, some with bacon and eggs - and is
Species lived to 100. "Today there is little doubt, says Perls, who
"Good training" - exercise and proper nutrition - contribute powerfully to life
100

"The secret of longevity is a lifestyle as much as anything," says
Helen Boardman. "I always have to be taken, I do not drink and I never
smoked.

"I'm not a fan of red meat at all," he continues. "I prefer vegetables, fruits,
Chicken and fish. And if I do not feel too well, I have oatmeal. Growth
the family farm, we always had in the morning, and I still love him! "
Chocolate cake? "Unacceptable, but yummy!" She laughs.

Fred Hale, at 113 to eat, even excessively, and do not drink coffee or tea. Its
Diet? "I eat a fork like everyone else!" it teases.

"I have to eat moreOatmeal with honey for breakfast, "he says." Lunch
Meat and potatoes. And at night, I eat very light - quark, apple juice
and toast. That's it. "

Marguerite sport competitor eats "very easily, which is easier
Stomach ", especially fruits and vegetables:" And I do not use milk
Products. I like soy milk instead. It seems easier to digest. "No sweets,
She says. This virtue! "Well, look what is the result!"

AboutGenetics, lifestyle and mental acuity, there is another deep, but
intangible factor that everyone has the ability to live to 100 influences. Dr. Perls refers
to it as "One Hundred Years 'personality' - a stress reduction way of thinking, the combined
positive thinking with a fighting spirit.

"Inevitably, most centenarians upbeat, fun and sociable," he added
Notes: "It 'very rare to meet a curmudgeon one hundred years, are not
Whiners. In our tests of personality, whichScore "neurosis", very low
Expression of negative emotions such as fear, anxiety, guilt, anger or depression.
I am positive and optimistic in the light of their attitude and recovering from
Life crises because they do not internalize your thoughts or feelings that lead to
Stress. "

"I believe in positive thinking," the boom athletic Margaret, one of the founding members
and permanent member of the unity of the Church in Olympia. "Mental attitude," says
Marguerite, who meditates every dayIt is to take in "a quiet place"
extremely important. "I always tried my whole life to be positive,
But I did not get with peak values up to now .... It 'been a matter of growth. "

His friend and promoter shot put, John Vlastelia, president of the
Washington State Senior Games, adds this: "If Marguerite reading
Newspaper that "the flu season in full bloom," always says: "I do not want
sick ", and literally take to a goodHealth. "

"We know," says Dr. Perls, "that stress - depression, internalized anger,
Worry, fear - is an age-accelerators. We found that centenarians are able
shake relieve back like a duck shaking water. Many have
experienced great losses and difficulties in their lives, but they would be able to
to move quickly and recover. "

A realistic view of death

Perhaps some of these centenarians reach the grand old time
reached by Mrs.
Jeanne Calment, the oldest person living in history, who died in l997,
age of 122

"The odds of living to 122," says Dr. Perls, "is 1 in 6 billion euros. Although I
that the human lifespan could be possibly be extended in 130 to
Most of us have reached age 100-105 hopes a reasonable number. "

Centenarians as Helen, Margaret, and Fred, live in the present as
suggest that very little about their limitedFutures.

"Death is something that is," Marguerite says matter-of-fact,
Fund for the competition in July of this year's shot put: "I accept it as part of my
The experience in life, but I do not think. "

Fred Hale, every time when his physical therapist says, "I'll see you tomorrow"
113 years, he replied: "Maybe I'm not doing long-term plans!"

His attitude toward death? "What took you so long!" joking cheerfully.
Then you notice a heavy,He adds: "It can not do anything because of fear."

This attitude is typical, says Dr. Perls: "I have not met every one hundred years, the
fear of death. If nothing else, I am very grateful for each day that are, and are
the only hope for more. "

As for Elena, "sometimes," he smiles, "I'm so sleepy. Every time I sit down, I
just close my eyes. My daughter was talking about death the other day and said:
I can not wait to find out what has happened. Well, I feel more or less the sameWay.
I am not afraid of death. It 'just another phase in which we finished
to work. I am happy to stop at any time. "

But lights at the thought of her young husband, Bill:

"He is my inspiration!" He says cheerfully. "My children are all
whatever ... I do not need. Bill ago. He needs someone to boss! I
waiting for what's to come. "

All in all, 107 is a blessing or a burden?

"Both," he replies calmly. "It 'a burdenbecause I was a voracious reader
until he was nearly blind. So what I've lost more fun
If I can listen to books on tape. But it is a blessing because of the things I
still able to do. Here's my poem: "My hearing and sight - not much
well, stumbling, and sometimes when I go, but if you ask me, do not
Question about my life, I am sure glad I can still talk! "

"So I am an optimist", says goodbye, "grateful for everything.Every
Day. At dinner, every bite is exciting because I never know what I'm going to
to eat. The cup is always full. I never needed it. Everything is good.
Nothing wrong with that.

"After reading my memoirs," he smiles, "my nephew asked me if
was not a bad thing in my life, and I said: "If I have forgotten"
